What is most important these days is expressing my gratitude to the fans and musicians who have been with me for so many years. I'll play more from my Serenata CD and some surprises. It is still a dream of mine to play a future unplugged gig with Marshall.Īnother Steinway performance, this time totally solo piano, is slated for September 24 in Ojai at the Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts. Coming full circle and 40 years later, I've done a few cool piano trio house concerts and played up in Paso Robles at Libretto on their Steinway concert grand and will return in October for more. After our DC jazz/fusion band Natural Bridge split up in '82, I dabbled with a few Sunday and Monday night trio gigs at Harold's Rogue and Jar and Marshall Hawkins was kind enough to play upright bass with me and gently mentor me about the brand new, stripped down trio format. I love listening to great piano trios, Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Fred Hersch, Ahmad Jamal, Wynton Kelly, Bobby Timmons.my earliest influences as a teenager was seeing Bill Evans at the Smithsonian and Blues Alley and Monty Alexander a few times at the tiny King of France Tavern in Annapolis but I've hardly played in that challenging setting over my career.
